Autovest Canopy Division was formed through the combination of two well-known canopy manufacturers & distributors, SA Canopy and Bucco Canopies.

SA Canopy was established in 1986 and developed from a family business based in Port Elizabeth into one of the largest canopy companies in South Africa, with a national footprint of franchise fitment centres. The company’s strong presence in the automobile accessory marketplace meant that in October 2007 SA Canopy was purchased by Autovest. Autovest, through its various brands including Maxe bars, Rhino linings, Kilber towbars and Auto Armor film, is the largest supplier of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) approved automotive accessories in South Africa. Through the company’s focus on product design, quality manufacturing and excellent customer service, Autovest has proven itself as a reliable partner to the OEM’s and automotive dealerships.

Formed in 1973, Bucco Canopies was based in Pinetown KZN and historically was a dominant player in the greater Kwazulu-Natal region. Like SA Canopy, Bucco Canopies was also originally family-owned and grew from its KZN base to have 24 Fitment centres across the country. In July 2010 Autovest decided to extend its presence in the canopy industry by purchasing Bucco Canopies.

In the next two and half years Autovest set about consolidating these two established canopy suppliers into a new and exciting presence in the automobile accessory marketplace, Autovest Canopy Division. In the process of this consolidation, SA Canopy and Bucco Canopies have been retained as two key brands in Autovest Canopy Divisions’ stable of brands.

Autovest Canopy Division is today one of the largest canopy suppliers in Southern Africa, able to offer customers a wide range of canopy and lid accessory solutions focused on the light commercial vehicle segment. With our national chain of fitment centres throughout Southern Africa we are committed to offering our customers quality products, at competitive prices with dedicated back up service.

The locally manufactured range branded SA Canopy or Bucco includes everything from sleek sports canopies, low profile canopies, standard high canopies (incorporating blank side and complete blank canopies) to commercial space savers, with a multitude of fibreglass and glass door options. This exciting canopy range is manufactured in three manufacturing facilities, one each in Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Durban.

In order to achieve consistency of product quality across three manufacturing sites, Autovest Canopy Division monitors a comprehensive set of process controls in addition to running a "quality gate" system that checks quality throughout the manufacturing process . Complementing this focus on Quality Control, the company only sources raw materials from established and pedigreed companies. Chief amongst these is Scott Bader, a world class resin and gelcoat manufacturer based just outside of Durban. Scott Bader holds accreditation with critical international standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Lloyds, SABS, EU and others. The benefit of these includes that all materials are manufactured consistently within tight specifications. There is rigorous testing of materials against international standards to ensure high performance of colour fastness, gloss retention, and structural integrity in the environment for which they are designed. Furthermore, automotive gelcoat is colour matched within tight colour specifications such that the human eye cannot detect any difference from the original standard.

Autovest Canopy Division is also the sole importer and distributor of Carryboy canopies and accessories, the top of the range luxury canopy in Southern Africa. All imported canopies are manufactured utilising the best quality materials and stainless steel hardware and fasteners. The company also sells a full range of lids for bakkie bins, including the well-established locally produced aluminium Securilid option, the fibreglass offering manufactured by Deckel and the imported plastic lid made by Pro-Form.

The company has a national network of more than 30 franchised Fitment Centres which hold stock of fast-moving ranges and have the ability to colour match a canopy to suit the vehicle. This network ensures that customers receive quality after sales service in support of our excellent warranty policy. These Fitment Centres are supplied from two major Distribution Hubs, one in Johannesburg and another in Durban. The Hubs carry significant volumes of stock across a wide range in order to ensure that Fitment Centres can quickly turnaround even slow-moving canopies and lids. Many of the franchised Fitment Centres, including those branded as Auto Enhance, offer products beyond canopies and lids and include various combinations across the Autovest range including polyurethane coatings for bin linings, nudge bars, roll bars, side steps, tow bars, smash and grab for windows and other vehicle accessories.

Autovest Canopy Division is at the forefront of canopy design and technology. Styling is in keeping with new Light Commercial Vehicle offerings because they are developed in conjunction with the Original Equipment Manufacturers. A well-resourced Technical / R&D team uses cutting edge technology including 3D scanning and printing to develop new products
